These are the Firefly ESCs with 32bit processors that are specially designed for multirotors using custom firmware.  The firmware is similar to BLHeli but has some significant improvements while still being compatible with OneShot125, OneShot42 and Multishot. Furthermore, the Firefly ESC will automatically detect which protocol your flight controller is using.

When designing the Firefly series ESC, we worked with the factory to build an ESC that is tiny, easy to use and is highly compatible with a wide range of motors. In particular, these ESCs work great with high KV motors that are used on many racing quadcopters (these motors typically have motor sync issues if using a non-compatible ESC).  Typical ESC processors are not up to the task of meeting all these demands so the Firefly series ESCs all use a 32bit ARM processor (STM32F051 @48MHZ) along with a dedicated hardware PWM driver. Furthermore, all the Firefly ESC use a PMSM gate driver IC to ensure perfect timing and maximum efficiency of the ESC while keeping the size and weight down to a minimum.  This hardware also ensures a perfect linear throttle response of your motors with precision of 1480 steps.  Other popular multirotor ESC firmware often causes the throttle to jump from 92.5%.

Main features:

Smart ESC

  • The Firefly ESC firmware has a bunch of smart features that make using the ESC super easy. Such features include the ability for the ESC to automatically detect the protocol your flight controller is sending it, such as regular PWM, Oneshot or Multishot. You therefore do not need to manually set this. As well as improving the BLHeli firmware, the custom firmware keeps all the advantages of BLHeli, such as active and regenerative braking and a PWM output of 24Khz.
  • The ESC has motor jamming detection built in which means that if you crash your drone, and your propeller is blocked, it will automatically stop the motor to prevent the motor or ESC from burning out.  The motor will start rotating the motor again when it detects that the block is removed. Another novel feature we're sure you will appreciate is that you can set the motor direction by hand by simply rotating the motor when it's in programming mode to set its orientation. We no longer have to worry about which motor connects to which ESC wire!
  • The Firefly ESC also feature adaptive motor timing, so this means it is compatible with a much wider range of brushless motors.
