Reviews:

The FXT X50 is a very popular video transmitter (VTX) with FPV miniquad racers due to its small size, ease of use, vertical antenna mount and compatibility with RaceBand channels.

There are several versions of the VTX available with difference power outputs: 25mW (X50-L), 200mW (X50-2) and 600mW (X50-6). The 25mW is the UK legal version, free to use without a license. With the stock antenna you can get a range of 200m in open space. If you use some circular polarised antennas, this can be increased to over 300m. Low power FPV transmitters like the X50-L are also really good for indoor environments, where high-powered transmitter often cause multipathing. On the other hand, the 600mW version is much better outdoors and for long range FPV. With the stock 2 dBi dipole(Rubber Duck) antenna the transmitter is good for 1km LOS, but this can be extended to 1.5km+ by using a combination of circular polarised and helical antennas. Finally, 200mW is a perfect all rounder. It's a power output used by a lot of FPV mini quad racers because it's enough to provide a decent range and reception and equally won't kibosh everyone else’s fun, or eat into your battery life.

Both transmitters boast a big range of channels and support Raceband frequencies, which makes them compatible with most FPV gear on the market including Fatshark and ImmersionRC gear. RaceBand frequencies basically allow more pilots to race together without interference. Best still, there’s not a dipswitch in sight, it has a channel selection button and LED display that makes changing channels a painless experience. The ability to change channels quickly really comes into its own at drone racing events when lots of people are operating on the same channel.

Race Band channels: 5658, 5695, 5732, 5769, 5806, 5843, 5880, 5817mhz

The X50 transmitter come housed in a neat aluminium case, which helps with cooling and offers some crash protection. Its SMA connection is vertical so you can mount your antenna upwards without needing an adapter.

A wiring harness is provided which features a three-pin connector which is compatible with a lot of FPV cameras.  The Tx also provides a regulated 5V power supply which could be used to power a camera like the Foxeer HS1177.

Features:

  • Aluminium casing for better cooling & crash protection
  • 90 degree upward SMA antenna mount
  • 40 channels includes RaceBand - compatible with Fatshark and ImmersionRC gear

IMPORTANT: Do not turn the transmitter on before attaching the antenna, doing so will permanently damage the board!
