A wattmeter is an essential tool for any drone builder. It will enable you to measure and monitor the performance of your motor/ESC/battery, and the electrical throughput/consumption of your power train. With this information, you'll be able to select the most efficient prop/motor/ESC combination and more importantly, hopefully avoid damaging your components before you go out to fly! If the wattmeter saves you just one motor or ESC, then it has paid for itself.

The meter is easily connected; it simply sits in-line between your battery and device. So if for example you were testing the running efficiency of a prop, you would have the meter wired in between your speed controller and battery. If you were monitoring the performance of your battery charger, you would connect the unit between the battery and the charger. The meter is self-powered from the measured power supply, so you don't need to worry about an additional power supply. The meter is rated at up to 150amps and operational from 4.8-60V (0V with optional auxiliary battery input).

The meter is also easy to use, in fact it doesn’t have a single button so there is nothing to setup. Values for Current (A), Voltage (V) and Power (W) are shown in real time, while Peak Amps (Ap), Peak Watts (Wp), Voltage Minimum (Vm); and accumulated Amp-hours (Ah) and Watt-hours (Wh) are shown sequentially every two seconds on a continuous cycle – these ‘data values’ (Ah, Wh, Ap, Vm, Wp) are reset on power up.

Typical applications:

  • To measure the actual values of current (A), voltage (V) and power (W).
  • Ensure peak currents are within tolerance for your power system.
  • Check battery health and performance.
  • Evaluate R/C battery charging efficiency.
  • Assist with the correct selection of propellor and test efficiencies.
  • Check for wiring and connector power losses.
  • To verify the operating voltage of your flight pack under load and measure the quantity of charge drawn from the flight.
